I have enjoyed practicing as a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for over 25 years. Everyone has a life story to tell. It is through the process of opening yourself, despite difficult situations, that we find many hidden strengths, as well as, possibilities for the future. Witnessing the telling of the “story” and assisting in a person’s transformation is truly inspiring, and professionally rewarding to me. The resilience in which the human spirit can endure many painful, challenging experiences and yet grow, change and thrive is amazing.
I was born and raised in Southern California. I originally came to San Diego to earn my B.A. in Social Work from San Diego State University. After graduation I worked in many different treatment settings and foster care for delinquent, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled adolescents. I completed my undergraduate internship as Social Worker for Child Protective Services and later worked for the County of San Diego in this role. I helped children, teens and their families heal from the effects of physical/sexual abuse, neglect and
I earned my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from National University. After receiving my license as a Marriage & Family Therapist I opened a private practice with offices in El Cajon and Hillcrest (and later UTC La Jolla.) I provided individual psychotherapy to children, teens, and adults, as well as, marital and family therapy for depression, anxiety, parenting, divorce, substance abuse, child abuse, and infidelity. I maintained this practice for 13 years.
In addition to my private practice, in 1994 I was offered a position supervising Master’s level interns and implemented comprehensive school counseling services in collaboration with the Chula Vista Elementary School District. In 1997, I obtained a credential as a School Counselor and became an administrator for an early intervention, grant-funded program for children K-3rd grade with CVESD. I was responsible for training & supervising a staff of 12 paraprofessionals in 10 schools with a budget of $400K. After six years in that position, I missed providing direct service to children so I began working as a School Counselor in a charter elementary school. I was responsible for providing individual and small group counseling services for anger management, self-esteem, social skills, ADHD, divorce and bullying prevention. Over the years, I have been invited to give presentations to school administrators, teachers, and parents on the effects of divorce on children, childhood depression, adolescent stage of development, Real Boys, and effective parent-child communication.
In the summer of 2010, I resumed private practice and opened an office in the Village of La Jolla. I provide individual psychotherapy to children 8 years and older, teens, and adults, as well as couples and family therapy. I have a special passion in helping woman cope with infertility, given my personal experience. I have been married almost 20 years and have teenage twins. In my free time, I love reading, traveling to tropical places, walking on the beach, and watching my children surf! I have also enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for the past 6 years.
